EPUB is the open standard for reflowable ebooks. It is maintained by the W3C and supported by Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play Books, Nook, and — since 2022 — Kindle through Send to Kindle.
Here is the part most people never realize: an EPUB file is already a website in disguise. Rename any .epub to .zip, unzip it, and you will find XHTML documents, CSS stylesheets, images, and an OPF manifest holding it all together. A reader app is essentially a stripped-down browser with page-turn animations.
That is why EPUB to HTML is one of the cleanest conversions in the whole ebook world. You are not translating between two unrelated things — you are unwrapping content that was HTML all along and tidying up the packaging.
What EPUB layers on top of plain HTML:
HTML is the markup language every web page is built from. Heading tags, paragraphs, lists, images, links — they describe what the content is, and CSS decides how it looks.
Unlike EPUB, HTML is not a single file. It is a folder: one or more .html documents plus the images and stylesheets they point at. Open index.html in any browser and it just works. No reader app, no plugin, no account.

Three steps, nothing to install.
1. Upload your EPUB. Drag it onto the upload area or click to browse. Uploads are capped at 10MB, which covers essentially every text-based ebook. Image-heavy titles can exceed it.
2. Let the converter unpack it. We read the OPF spine to get the true chapter order — alphabetical folder order is wrong surprisingly often — then extract the XHTML, rewrite image paths, and normalize the stylesheet.
3. Download the ZIP. Inside you get index.html, one HTML file per chapter, and an images/ directory.
Most novels finish in ten to twenty seconds. A heavily illustrated art book or a 900-page technical manual might take a minute. If you have a whole shelf to move, Pro accounts add batch queueing and larger file limits.
Publishing chapters as blog posts. Sample chapters, serialized fiction, lead magnets. HTML drops into WordPress, Ghost, or Substack without the formatting wreckage you get from copy-pasting out of a reader app.
Turning a book into documentation. Plenty of technical authors write in ebook-friendly tools and then need a real docs site. HTML is the bridge.
Making content indexable. Google cannot read inside an EPUB. It reads HTML all day long.
Editing at scale. Need to rename a product across 40 chapters? Find-and-replace across HTML files takes seconds. Doing the same thing inside an EPUB means unzipping, editing, and repackaging archives by hand.
Long-term archiving. If you want text that will still open in thirty years without a dedicated app, a folder of HTML is a very safe bet.
